역사의 주체는 인간이다. 여기서는 역사적 인물을 개별적 심층적으로 탐구함으로써 그 인물을 둘러싸고 발생한 역사 사실과 사건을 보는 안목을 넓힌다. 격변기와 안정기의 인물들이 갖는 특성이 무엇인지 이해하고, 사회변동의 원인(遠因)과 근인(近因)을 파악하여, 올바른 역사관을 형성한다. 이 교과목을 수강한 학생은 보편적 여건으로서의 사회구조와 생산관계를 전제로 인간을 이해하게 될 것이며, 따라서 개별성이나 특수성보다는 사회적 총체성이나 역사성 속에서 특정 인물을 객관적으로 평가하는 능력을 갖게 될 것이다.

The subject of history is human beings. This course broadens students’ perspectives on historical facts and events by conducting in-depth, individual studies of historical figures. Students will understand the characteristics of individuals during periods of upheaval and stability, analyze the remote and immediate causes of social change, and develop a sound historical perspective. Upon completing this course, students will be able to understand humans within the framework of social structures and relations of production as universal conditions, enabling them to evaluate specific historical figures objectively in terms of social totality and historicity rather than individual uniqueness or particularity.

<윤리적 사유>의 차원을 이해하고, 현대의 윤리적 이슈들에 대한 판단능력을 기르는 것을 일차적 목적으로 한다. 윤리란 법을 지키는 것, 옳은 일이라고 알려진 것을 따르는 것, 다른 이들에게 피해를 주지 않는 행위 등과 흔히 혼동된다. 그와 구별하여 윤리를 이해하고, 현대의 개인적, 사회적 이슈들에 수반되는 윤리적 문제의 차원을 따져본다.

The primary objective of this course is to understand the dimension of ethical thinking and to develop the ability to make judgments on contemporary ethical issues. Ethics is often confused with simply obeying the law, doing what is commonly considered right, or refraining from harming others. This course distinguishes ethics from these notions and critically examines the ethical dimensions involved in modern personal and social issues.

As part of the foundational liberal arts curriculum, Logical Writing aims to cultivate essential skills in reading, logical thinking, and writing that every university student should possess. The ability to express one’s thoughts clearly and logically, supported by sound evidence, is a fundamental skill and virtue expected of an educated person in modern society. To develop this ability, students must learn to critically observe the world and acquire and apply appropriate arguments to support their claims. This course guides students step-by-step through the process of composing a coherent and logical essay, while providing ample practice in reading and writing various types of texts. Through this process, students will gain the tools necessary for effective self-expression.

고대에서 현대에 이르기까지 동양과 서양의 문명은 상호 접촉과 교류, 침투를 통해 변화·발전해 왔다. 본 강의는 특히 전근대 동양과 서양의 개별 지역사의 흐름이 합류하여 형성한 종교, 사상, 문화, 과학기술, 문화 등 거대한 인류사의 흐름을 파악하는데 주안점을 둔다. 이 교과목을 수강한 학생은 거시적 관점에서 동양과 서양의 문명을 이해하고, 이를 토대로 국제적으로 협동할 수 있는 태도와 사고력, 그리고 역사인식을 갖게 될 것이다.

제대로 된 인성교육이란 사회적 규범이나 도덕을 다시 환기시키는 도덕교육이 아니라, 자신의 삶을 어떻게 살 것인지를 스스로 생각하게 촉발하는 것이어야 한다. 이를 위해 좋은 삶이란 무엇인지, 그것을 위해선 어떤 능력이 필요한지, 그런 능력을 어떻게 만들어갈 수 있는지 등을 알아야 한다. 이러한 문제들에 대한 탐색과 촉발, 이것이 이 과목의 목적이다.

고전이란 말은 단지 오래된 익숙한 제목의, 그러나 잘 읽지 않는 책들을 지칭하지 않는다. 사람들의 삶에 중요한 영향을 미쳤거나 미치고 있는 다양한 종류의 텍스트, 익숙한 말로 다시 표현하면 ‘명작’이라고 불리는 텍스트들이다. 고대부터 현대에 이르기까지, 책에서 영화, 문학, 역사, 철학에서 사회학, 경제학 등 모든 영역에서 이런 텍스트를 선별해, 그것을 통해 좋은 삶에 대해, 그런 삶을 구성해가는 능력에 대해 다시 생각해보는 것, 그것이 이 과목의 목표이다.

근대는 개인이 절대화된 시대지만, 사실 어떤 개인도 혼자 살 수 없으며, 누군가 타인들에 기대어 산다. 또 근대는 ‘경쟁’이나 ‘적대’를 피할 수 없는 조건이나 인간의 본성인 양 다루지만, 그런 경쟁적 삶을 사는 이들조차 타인들의 도움과 협조 없이는 성공할 수 없고 좋은 삶을 살 수 없음을 실제로는 절감한다. 경쟁이란 그런 도움이나 협조를 끌어내는 경쟁이라고 해도 좋을 것이다. 나아가 경쟁이나 적대가 아닌 협동과 부조를 통해 작동하는 새로운 사회적 관계를 구성하려는 시도는 동서고금 언제나 존재해왔고, 그것이 좋은 삶, 좋은 인성의 조건이기도 했다. 이 과목은 흔히 ‘공동체적’이라고 명명되기도 하는 그런 협동과 부조의 삶을 재조명하고 그 속에서 개인의 삶의 방식과 능력, 즉 인성에 대해 다시 생각하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
